You, a Poem
You'll be fooled by love that moves too fast
And by promises that never last
You'll let him in before you find him out
And stifle any thoughts of doubt
You'll give him trust he'll never earn
And forgive his lust at every turn
You’ll justify all the years put in
As though time erases carnal sin
You'll support, deny, forgive, and try
You'll tell yourself lie after lie
And stay because you think you should
Even when there's no more good
But there will come a day you’ll realize
That forgiving will lead to your demise
Because there is no magic cure
To save someone so insecure
And, ultimately, there is no prize
For enabling his stupid lies
I know this because I once was you
And one day, you will know it, too
